Microsoft reaffirms its continued commitment to Dynamics GP through 2028

Business Central is Microsoft’s new, cloud-based ERP solution, giving Microsoft two ERP systems on the market. This has left many business and finance leaders to ask about the future of Dynamics GP.

We shared with you in a blog post last July that Microsoft announced its commitment to Dynamics GP through to the year 2028. Now again in April 2023, Microsoft made a follow up announcement that reaffirmed their continued commitment to Dynamics GP.

Here’s what you need to know.

  • For existing GP customers, it’s business as usual. Microsoft will continue to improve and maintain the GP software. They will provide tax and security updates, and hotfixes to ensure your current version of Dynamics GP remains up to date. This includes usability and reliability updates to ensure your business continues to operate successfully on Dynamics GP.
  • Microsoft remains committed to Dynamics GP through 2028. Microsoft will offer continuous support and servicing to GP, including bug fixes and the latest tax updates. Customers can remain stay current by taking at least one of the three yearly planned Dynamics GP releases.
  • As of April 1, 2026 (3 years from now), there will be no new customer sales of Dynamics GP. As a steppingstone, as of April 1, 2025, there will be no new sales of GP perpetual licenses. Subscription sales will still happen through to 2026.
  • Existing GP customers can continue to purchase new licenses and modules beyond 2026.
  • Microsoft is increasing the price of subscription and perpetual licenses as of October 2023. Enhancement plan rates will also be increasing. Joesoftware will reach out to our individual customers to share more information on these price increases.

For businesses and organizations that operate on Dynamics GP, this news provides reassurance that Microsoft remains committed to your ERP solution for the next five years.

Even with this information, Joesoftware encourages GP customers to think about their ERP needs in the long term. We encourage you to consider how your organization can reduce and eliminate pain points, drive out inefficiencies, improve reporting, and even reduce your infrastructure by moving to the cloud with Business Central.
